Start Yachting - 2 Days
This course provides a short introduction to sail cruising for novices. By the end of the course, participants will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework and be aware of safety on board

Competent Crew - 5 Days
This is for beginners and those who would like to become active crew members rather than just passengers. By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day routines.

Day Skipper Course - 5 Days
The practical course gives you a chance to take charge on short passages under instruction with plenty of advice and help from the instructor. Designed for tidal waters.

Coastal Skipper - 5 Days
This is an advanced skippering course for yachtsmen and women who have considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation and are usually aspiring towards a Certificate of Competence. Designed for Tidal waters.

Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Exam Preparation - 5 Days (incl. Exam)
An advanced course for leisure or professional purposes. This course is designed to prepare students for the formal RYA/MCA coastal skipper or yachtmaster independent examination. After 4 days intensive training on all aspects of yachtmaster requirements, an independent examiner will join the yacht on the 5th day for a formal assessment of students abilities.

NB. The examination application has an entrant criteria, call Golden Black offices for details.

Cornwall... a great place to learn to sail

Learning to sail with Golden Black is made all the more special by the superb environment in which we operate. The protected waters in and around Falmouth and Helford present a wide range of sailing options from a busy commercial port to quiet estuary navigation. Further afield, the South Cornwall and Devon coast provides an array of suitable challenges for students of all levels, as well as access to open sea for yachtmaster qualifying passages.

Its not just the high quality sailing options that inspire you. The unique ports, anchorages and ‘après sail’ facilities will all add to your inspiration. Our aim is to create a careful balance of work, rest and play that helps you get the most from your time with us.

Cornwall may be a little further to travel for many sailors but the rewards found here more than compensate for the little extra effort… ask someone who has sailed with us. Check out your travel options or call us for advice, including air links to Newquay, Cornwall, rail links to Falmouth and, road travel times that improve year on year.
